Don’t Touch That Dial
Comedy Central has been in and out of the sketch comedy shows for a while. Take a look at the dreaded 9:30 PM time slot on Wednesday. This is also known as the show that follows South Park. Many of these shows have tanked and the ones that have succeeded you can possibly count on one hand. Last week the dreaded 9:30 time slot had a new debut and it was a sketch Comedy show.
I said earlier that there have been many imitators in the sketch comedy genre. Mad TV being the one that lasted the longest. It lasted over 10 years against the juggernaut known as SNL. The Kroll Show debuted last Wednesday. I was very skeptical in tuning in. I am a fan of The League on FX which stars Nick Kroll as a jackass lawyer/Fantasy Football Team Owner. I figured I would give this show a chance. I set my DVR and checked it out. The first sketch when he gives his leaving for College Girlfriend, a mix tape, I had to say I kinda lost it with laughter. This is not your stereotypical sketch comedy show. If you have ever checked The Onion Movie or Kentucky Fried Movie, you know how these movies work. It is like flipping channels in a movie. That is how The Kroll Show is set up. Instead of making fun of news stories, they make fun of all those reality shows we have come to hate.
I am making this recommendation to all of you, Go out of you way to see The Kroll Show. This show is the best sketch comedy show since the debut of Kids In The Hall. You will laugh your ass off at his only normal walking kid in a school that is for disabled kids. Think of Degrassi but with using a kid in a wheelchair as a curling stone. They also spoof those late night Weight Loss infomercials and those cheeky shows about party planning on E! Will this show last? I hope so but it is Comedy Central and they don’t really care to keep around the funny shows. If you do not laugh at this show you need checked out. Check it out tonight on Comedy Central at 10:30/9:30 central.
